Great Moment in Athens.
One of the best tour destination in Europe is Athens, a capital city of Greece. The city of Athens contains various architectural styles: from Greco-Roman, Neo-Classical, to modern. Some of the neo-classical structures to be found are public buildings erected during the mid-19th century, under the guidance of Theophil Freiherr von Hansen and Ernst Ziller, and include the Athens Academy, Athens City Hall, Greek Parliament, Old Parliament (1875–1932) (Now the National Historical Museum),University of Athens, and Zappeion Hall.
One of those places in Athens is a place you must visit. The Philopappos Monument is the first great site in Athens. It is an ancient Greek mausoleum and monument dedicated to Gaius Julius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappos or Philopappus, a prince from the Kingdom of Commagene as commemoration for him. It is located on Mouseion Hill in Athens, Greece, southwest of the Acropolis.
Philopappos’ monument is a two-story structure, supported by a base. On the lower level there is a frieze representing Philopappos as a consul, riding on a chariot and led by lictors. The upper level shows statues of three men: of Antiochus IV on the left, of Philopappos in the centre and of Seleucus I Nicator, now lost, on the right.
Being fully satisfied touring in Philopappos, it’s time to go to another places in Athens. The Partenon is the second place you must visit when you are in Athens. It is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis, dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Its construction began in 447 BC and was completed in 438 BC, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BC.
It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered to be the culmination of the development of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy and one of the world’s greatest cultural monuments. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a program of selective restoration and reconstruction to ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure.
The Partenon not only offers us a beautiful architecture, but also offers us some information about the past. The great history of Athena should indeed make us aware about the world’s site, no matter how hard the struggle to protect it is. Let’s keep our Athens the most beautiful city in the world and let’s make Athens as the number 1 destination for your trip to Europe. Have fun!!
