Once Upon a time, Juliet cried out to Romeo in Verona from Juliet’s House (Casa di Giulietta)
When entering the courtyard, you’ll see a statue of Juliet’s with a shinier right breast (since people has been rubbing it for good luck, not sure where it was originated though), and the famous Juliet’s balcony is just in front of you.
The graffiti and love letters sticking on the walls and doors in the courtyard is definitely not part of Shakespeare’s play. Somehow some people started it and now the walls are polluted. Although it is sort of a mixture of modernity and ancient romance, the scene is still not very pleasant.
Inside the house is a small museum. It is free of charge to enter the courtyard while getting into the house cost EUR3. All the items on display are genuine antiques from the 16th and 17th century, but no guarantee that they belonged to Juliet, those are items like paintings and ceramics related to Shakespeare’s play.
Juliet’s house is one of the most visited attractions in Verona. To avoid the crowds, try early in the morning or late afternoon.
Not far from the house is Juliet’s tomb (La Tomba di Giulietta). Again, the existence of Romeo and Juliet is not the main point, the thing you should enjoy is the romantic scene and imaginations that you can have from there.
